What is the maintenance like on a subaru wrx.?
Thinking about getting a used subaru wrx does anyone know what the maintenance is like. Is it alot to maintain or is low to maintain, because i drive a acura now and I'll tell you that honda is very reliable. Just want to know if subaru is the same. Because im looking for a nice sports car thats good on gas and good in the snow and the wrx has that 4cyl awd. Also which year has the least defects and problems. Thanks

- Well I think its all the same. Ive had two hondas and subaru is just around the same with maintenance. Just awd can get a lil pricier if something breaks. But as long as the oil get changed and all the fluids are good your car should be reliable
- Well not to scare you but buying a used wrx is a little dangerous. You dont know if the owner before you has beat on it putting tons of huge upgrades then downgrading it back to stock to sell it before it blows up. If you do find one that an older couple has had that would be the best. Taking care of them is no more expensive than most cars, just make sure to do the 30k,60k,and 90k since these are critical to the drivetrain of our vehicle and all the fluids need to be changed along with the spark plugs.
- If it's been maintained properly and wasn't abused, they will last well past 150,000 miles without much problem. First bit of big maintenance is around 60,000 when you need to change spark plugs and all other fluids. About $150 to 200 to do your self. Next big one is a timing belt change at 105,000 miles. About $500 to have done. Throw in some brake work once during that time and you'll find it's really no different than any other car. 02's had the weakest tranny that was upgraded some in 03 and used all the way through the current model. Engine changed from 2 Lr to 2.5 Lr in 06. I have had both and the better torque curve in the 06 and up is worth the extra money. Pretty much anything other than some body parts are interchangeable from 02 to 07 so if parts are needed, they are very easy to find. Just make sure any car you are interested in comes with proof of all scheduled maintenance done. Other than that, you just have to have a little faith. Buying any used car, no matter what brand, is a risk.
- Subaru is legendary with their reliability. Maintenance is low, all you need to do is the basics, like keeping the oil changed, checking tire pressure, etc. Those things run forever!
