Why are there more new Mitsubishi Evo 9 for sale than the Subaru WRX STI?

I am in central FL, and I notice that dealers still have several NEW 06 Mitsubishi EVO 9s. It's much harder finding a new 2007 Subaru WRX STI, since they get sold quicker. I am a prospective buyer and would like to have some input on this. Why is this? Does the EVO have other 'achilles heels' other than the dreaded premature clutch wear? Is the STI the better car for the street and occasional track? The EVO is praised in all magazines and people as 'the car to have', yet the Subaru STI is the 'hard car to find'. Can anyone shed light on the subject? Thanks

  1. Ranging in popularity between both cars its hard to make a choice, though i've driven both and I can make a educated guess at least.

The 2007 wrx sti model is fast, handles great, and can still take you around town while feeling normal, while when I drove the evo it was a totally different feeling, it was FAST, and had a bit better handling, but for a daily driver I don't think i'd be happy with it.

The other reason that the 07 sti is going to be hard to find right now is because the 08 model has been skipped in preparation for a 09 model release of the sti, meaning that all those people who would have bought an 08 this year are scrambling to get their hands on the limited stock of 07 sti that are left over, not to mention many people find the 07 much more aesthetically pleasing than the 08 wrx (and in relation the possible 09 sti) causing a jump at that car.

I'll put it this way to sum it up, if you love to take your car to the track or always out to play in it the evo is a great car, but if you're a daily drive commuter with a passion for some offroad fun when you're not busy the sti is for you.

  2. The STis havent sold as well in the last 2 years because theyre hideous. The 07 is the fastest/most mod receptive STi yet, but its also pretty ugly. The EVO is slightly faster, looks way better, etc.

and EVOs dont have clutch issues, they have driver issues, like people doing 7000 RPM clutch dumps on a drag strip.

I have an 05 STi, but if I had to chose between an 06 EVO or 07 STi, I would take an EVO in a heartbeat.
