As regards the difference between coupe WRX STi Type R and P1, not alot. The P1 uses the coupe Type R as its base. The P1 was only available in UK. It was 'built' by Prodrive and there was a big options list that the owner could spec up but there wasn't anything done with the engine. You could spec a filter or exhaust. It was also limited to 1000 units. Also, depending on the year, the appearance will be different.
Now for the recommendations!! Due to the fact the P1 is limited, expect to pay more than the coupe Type R. The Type R is a good, solid car. It has performance extras over the standard STi 4 door EG: gearbox, drivetrain,ECU,body panels,DCCD. If I was going to buy one I'd head for the coupe and spend the cash you save on breaks or wheels. But if you're into exclusivity, by all means get the P1. Or if you can find one and the bank manager likes you, get the Daddy of them all, the 22B!!!
Just be careful. Same rule as buying any car. Look out for signs it has been trashed. The more original it is the better for you.
Good luck
>>>Sorry but the P1 wasn't the first Jap import to the UK. It was actually built by Prodrive for Subaru UK to steer people AWAY from buying Grey imports. Engine is still 1994cc<<<
