Is it easy to take a turbo off a subaru wrx?
im asking this because i might get a 97' subaru wrx wagon.Due to victorian laws i cant drive it with a turbo, so is it easy to take it off? and if i do, do i have to take the intercooler off as well? Also, would this be expensive or a relatively cheap job?

- You must be in the UK. I suspect it might be a difficult task due to the fact that you'd have to set up the engine to run without the turbo. I would find a very skilled mechanic or take it to a Subaru dealer.
- well its easy if yor a mechanic engineer or something like that i cant help you online like this i have to see it first
- I think you would be better off to just try to get a regular non turbo Subaru Impreza.
- You would have to redo some major parts I would think it would be expensive unless you can custom fabricate your own intake and exhaust
- My first curiosity is why you would have to remove it in the first place.. The WRX came with a turbo from the factory, and as such it is an integral part of the design; it would be nigh impossible to make it run well without it..Even in the UK.. plenty of intact full-on turbo'd WRXs..who told you it had to be removed..?.....The intercooler can stay, but it has to be plumbed to the stock air cleaner/ intake without restriction..
IMO, I'd personally tell the powers that be to go pound sand..
- victorian laws??
hmmm.....
well to take the turbo off just replace the exhaust manifold with a normal manifold and collector. after that, you will need to replace the intake manifold, computer, chip, plenum and yes...do away with the intercooler.
